WHAT’S UP LOVELY – The Post Flow

I’ve been asked by a few people to cover the post-production workflow.  I already talked about the shooting, editing and test screening process.  So now I plan to address the score and sound design component and how everything — in theory — comes together in the end. Here’s a snapshot of the final project in Final Cut Pro: (remember to keep your dialogue, sound f/x, music all on separate tracks) This review is all just based on my experiences as [...]

LOVELY Updates – Sneak Peeks in LA (and NYC soon)

With thanks to Cinefist, our Los Angeles sneak peek on Friday (May 14th) is coming up soon!  I’m extremely excited to show it in front of an audience for the very first time.  Well…excited may not be the exact word.  Nervous would be more like it.  You may find me pacing a bit before the screening. Jenn Dees and I will be there along with select cast/crew for a Q&A after the screening.  I’ve also been asked to participate in [...]

  • LOVELY Wraps Post-Production

    LOVELY Wraps Post-Production

A little over a year ago I began the journey of making WHAT’S UP LOVELY.   I discovered so many things about myself as an artist from creating it with my friends — that I didn’t know I had in me — things I wish to continue to explore with future films (particularly Part Two of the Loneliness Trilogy!) I was in post-production with this film for approximately 11 months of my life.  It feels great to finally let go. [...]

    5 Days in the West

This past week I visited Los Angeles with actress/collaborator Christina Rose.  It was a jam packed trip with many meetings and plans — with everything culminating with a really fun interview on LA Talks Radio’s Film Courage (hosted by David Branin and Karen Worden). Here’s a quick summary of my trip’s highlights: DAY ONE (March 31): Travel Day – NY to LA.  Layover in Denver.  Opted for the extra $10/day to have GPS in my rental car.  It saved me [...]

    The Little Things…

This amazing gift was sent to me from a darling person (thanks Victoria!) that I met at the Charlotte Film Festival.  I was there last year with NEW YORK LATELY and hope to return sooner than later. I’ve said before there is something magical to me when people gather to watch something that I had a hand in creating.  It was a dream of mine that finally came true — and that I never take for granted.  Attending screenings, meeting [...]

MOVIE ADDICT HEADQUARTERS Interview (3/16 show)

Here is my interview with the sweet Betty Jo Tucker I did to mainly discuss HOW DO YOU WRITE A JOE SCHREMANN SONG and its Kickstarter campaign.  We talk about the development of the project, its actors and our shared passion for films.  I had a great time. I also asked how I could offer a verbal “hello and thanks” to my wonderful Twitter friends and supporters who planned to listen live to the show….and they asked me to use [...]

  • Bringing “WHAT’S UP LOVELY” to You

Roll Call!!  Do you want to see WHAT’S UP LOVELY? We are compiling a list of locations (countries and cities) to help us consider where we can take our film to screen (and ideally present it in person).  We are also exploring venue options that support indie film screenings and will be partnering with people who are interested in helping us get the film out to their area. One of the exciting new methods on doing this is Openindie – [...]

  • VIDEO UPDATE: NY LATELY screening at the Annapolis Pretentious Film Society

Peri and his wonderful team (Lisa and Victora) at The Annapolis Pretentious Film Society (APFS) put together this well crafted video about our NEW YORK LATELY screening this month. You can see the TLC he puts in to not only this video, but his screening series as a whole. It was an amazing experience and I cannot highly recommend attending or screening there — wish I could do both more often. Thank you Peri, Lisa, Alex, Victoria, David,  Nicole from [...]

  • The Films That Inspired WHAT’S UP LOVELY

In some way, shape or form these films influenced me as I was making WHAT’S UP LOVELY.  Some in pre-production, others while shooting and even more during the editing process.  Meshes in the Afternoon (1943) Persona (1966) Chungking Express (1999) Eyes Wide Shut (1999) Mullholland Drive (2001) Ratcatcher (2006) The Girlfriend Experience (2009) READ MY DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

  • a DIY Film Tour

    a DIY Film Tour

Based on the article “The D.I.Y Book Tour” by Stephen Elliot, this idea fascinates me: “I asked if people wanted to hold an event in their homes. They had to promise 20 attendees. I would sleep on their couch. My publisher would pay for some of the airfare, and I would fund the rest by selling the books myself.” I’m not sure how it could work with film, but in theory it could almost be a similar model. And we’re [...]
