  • DISMAL SCREENS At HORRORFIND

    DISMAL SCREENS At HORRORFIND

What a weekend!! We had over 400 hardcore horror fans fill the theater and hoot, holler, heckle and applaud at DISMAL. It was a great screening overall and we received some very positive feedback as well as good, constructive criticism on what we can do to make it better. I truly believe we now have a very promising film on our hands. The best part is the overall word at the convention is that the crowd already wanted a sequel!! [...]

  • Notes from the Kitchen Table

Just laying low — keeping extremely busy with some really cool news updates for NEW YORK LATELY and KITCHEN TABLE FILMS that I think everyone will dig. I hope to share the exciting news later this month. Until then, I’m prepping to head out to Maryland in another few weeks to test screen DISMAL in front of a huge horror fan crowd — it should be very interesting to say the least. Most important to me is reuniting with a [...]

DISMAL (The Lowdown) – Part 1

So it’s a fact that in all film productions, no matter the size, something will go wrong. You can’t fight it….or avoid it. Something wrong will happen. It’s just how you deal with it that makes all the difference between a ship that makes it to port, or sinks in the middle of the ocean. For DISMAL, my DP (Shawn Lewallen) and myself had about a week to prep for the shoot….with only 3 days at the actual locations to [...]

  • DISMAL Buzz

    DISMAL Buzz

DISMAL is starting to get some pre-buzz before its actual sneak preview screening in August and eventual release later this year. Here are just some of the horror fan sites that are talking about us!! Some particular quotes I enjoy from the entries are: “And from the look of DISMAL’s trailer, I’ve gotta say that this one seems to be serving up an ideal horror platter from hot chicks to hellish carnage. Good stuff!” –JoBlo.com “A sharp looking trailer…” –shocktillyoudrop.com [...]

  • On The Road Again

I was in beautiful Wilmington, NC again to supervise the editing of DISMAL. We’ve come close to a picture lock and there is a lot of excitement!! It’s shaping up rather nicely so everyone is eager to premiere it. I can’t wait to see it in front of a live audience…..more on that later where you can catch a sneak preview next month before its release!!! In the meantime, I was interviewed with the producers while I was down there [...]

  • Juggling 2 Feature Films Is No Joke

Here I am sitting in post-production for 2 feature films — NEW YORK LATELY and DISMAL — thinking I’d have some time to breathe and catch up since I’m not the team actively working during this stage. I have some insanely talented people working on the editing, scoring and sound work…..so I thought I’d have some free time to develop my next feature film. WRONG! I think I somehow forgot that I’d have my hands all over the films as [...]

  • DISMAL (Week 3)

    DISMAL (Week 3)

The last week of production for DISMAL found us working with a skeleton crew. The original plan was to shoot the last week back in North Carolina with minimal crew…..but that changed as we found local locations in Georgia. However, a good portion of the crew came from Orlando and were only signed on through the original schedule which had us leaving GA after the 2nd week…….long story short (too late!!!) we had about 2 PA’s and our Key crew [...]

  • My Interview with Indie Production Source

Last month prior to heading to Georgia to shoot DISMAL, I sat down with INDIE PRODUCTION SOURCE to talk about the project and my experiences as a director. The guys (Charles Stewart Jr., Kelly Neilon, Matt Hacker) who run it are really nice and belong to the North Carolina indie film community as well. If you are interested, my interview begins just at about the 08:55 mark — Hope you enjoy it!!! You can visit them at the following sites: [...]

  • DISMAL (Week 2)

    DISMAL (Week 2)

During the 2nd week of production, we started getting into the meat and potatoes of the shoot — which included our practical f/x, stunts and night shooting — fun fun fun (in theory). The week started with some great discoveries that I had some seriously talented actors to work with — which always makes things more interesting. I hate to jinx things, but I really believe that one of the actors (Bill Oberst Jr. as DALE — see his pic [...]

  • DISMAL (The First Week)

    DISMAL (The First Week)

To recap, I was on location on Blakely, GA — a small, quaint town full of the friendliest people eager to help out our production. However, that area of the state only had Verizon as a carrier — and a major portion of the crew didn’t use them as a cell phone carrier (major problem….major). Day One started out with heavy rain. The locals said it hadn’t rained in the area for MONTHS…but of course on our first day it [...]

  • Logging Footage, Syncing Footage, Cutting Footage….Oh My

I have to keep this entry light today as I’m busy digitizing 19 days of DISMAL footage into my computer. On top of this I also have to sync separate audio files that we recorded for each scene — which is keeping me ultra-busy as I usually don’t like to record audio separately during filming since HD cameras have great audio specs nowadays. Oh well. I plan to tackle another cut of NEW YORK LATELY later this week and next [...]

  • Back in the NY Groove

I’m back!! I’m working on posting some pics this week from the DISMAL set — I just got in after my flight was canceled last night (had to spend the night in Cincinnati, Ohio). The DISMAL shoot was 19-days of fun over 5 weeks in GA. Bugs, rain, poison oak, no cell phone service, no internet, heat heat heat, jam packed shooting days, a stalker in the woods — filmmaking is a blast! I plan to detail some highlights over [...]

  • I’ve Got Internet

So I finally found a place to stay with internet connection — but I’m so beat from shooting the past month that I have no time to really post a detailed update…..but I’ve got soooo much to write about for this production in GA. 4 more shooting days to go on the 18-day shoot. I’ve been in Blakely for close to a month now. Stay tuned…..
