Carey Mulligan

Amazing actress. I hope to work with her someday.

Side Note: Looking at my previous “Wish-List” entries, I think I have a thing for British actresses

Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That

Nothing against this film or the people involved……but I just feel it’s so unrepresentative of how the world is now — at least how I see it:

This is a bit closer….

And I’m not even try to self-plug my film. It’s just to show that Hollywood still has a lot of people in power in place that are not used to seeing anything else…..and probably live in a bubble (or a gated community).

100 Films To See (If You Haven’t Seen Them) – Part 1

November 19, 2008 Film, General No Comments

I met a good friend recently to talk about the screenplays we are both developing.

As I was discussing mine, I referenced a ton of movies to him. Surprisingly, he hadn’t seen about 75% of the films I mentioned — yeah I’m old — so he suggested I put together a list of films for him to watch.

So here’s the start of that list. These are mainly older films that aren’t considered too mainstream or in the recent minds of the popular culture.

This is not my all-time favorite movie list, but rather a list of films that I believe are underrated and underwatched with most folks today. Some of these films you may dig a lot — others maybe not. I’ve chosen them because there’s something in each of them that stick with me to this day.

Here are the first 25 films — listed by year:

(Click on the titles for the IMDB entry – Trailers/Clips Included When Available)

Stolen Kisses (1968)

Walkabout (1971)

Day For Night (1973)

The Last Detail (1973)

California Split (1974)

Nashville (1975)

Picnic At Hanging Rock (1975)

Assault On Precinct 13 (1976)

Interiors (1978)

Dressed To Kill (1980)

Blow Out (1981)

They All Laughed (1981)

Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid (1982)

Fandango (1985)

The Player (1992)

Short Cuts (1993)

Devil In A Blue Dress (1995)

Out Of Sight (1998)

Samurai Fiction (1998)

The Limey (1999)

Jump Tomorrow (2001)

The Last Kiss (Italian Version) (2001)

I can’t wait to see SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE this weekend and soak up some new lessons from Danny Boyle. His film career has been hit and miss, but the one thing I really admire about him as a filmmaker is his ability to move seamlessly from genre to genre.
