Steven Soderbergh is one of my all-time favorite filmmakers. His ability to seamlessly slip from genre to genre is something I admire and aspire to — so it’s fascinating to hear this in-depth audio interview with DP/30 talking about his career and his latest film MAGIC MIKE. (Read the video crawl to see why it’s audio only)
It’s pretty awesome for Soderbergh to sit down and give about 40 mins of uncensored talk. During the discussion you can just tell he’s so intelligent about the moves he makes. It seems that he knows how to really balance the art and commerce of filmmaking (something he admits to being at the top of his game in the late 90s but today’s climate makes it tougher).
One enlightening revelation from this talk is his “one for them – one for me” motto that I thought he prescribed to is clarified as actually “all for me“… (damn he’s lucky)
