Kinsey (2004) – Great performances. Story left me wanting to know more about the outcome and lives in a deeper way. It felt as if the movie was only on the surface. (B-)The Aviator (2004) – Biopic that again, only scratches the surface. It moves along without really getting to know the man, rather is relishes in showing off his eccentricities and lavish production values. (C+) Crash (2004) – Incredible storytelling. Moving and thought-provoking. It is a bit manipulative and [...]

(A-)Birth (2004) – Beautiful visuals cannot make up for this thin story that feels more like a gimmick than a fully realized script. (D) Confidences trop intimes (a.k.a. Intimate Strangers) (2004) [...]

Bad Education (2004) – Decent Almodovar flick, but I like his earlier stuff better. Try to find Matador or Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown if you haven’t seen them. (B-)The Woodsman (2004) – Daring performance by Kevin Bacon in an unsettling film. Director Nicole Kassell did some fine work with this compelling piece that emotionally drew me in and yet still ultimately left me distant from the characters. (B)

  • Bellarmine Film Festival

Went to my high school alma-mater to attend the 2nd annual film festival. I can’t believe how far technology has come…back in the day there was nothing near as advanced to do the things these guys are doing in high school nowadays.
