  • Hubris Premiere

The film’s score and sound design are being worked on as well as the color-correction. Looks like a November premiere is in sight. Should be a fun time to finally present the film to a large audience to see the type of reactions it will (or will not) get.

  • 7.7/10

Hubris scored a 7.7 out of a possible 10 (the score was averaged from 15 viewers via test screen surveys). So now I’m just tweaking the final cut and doing some final audio mixing. I shared the film with my filmmaker brother this weekend and he gave some good, constructive feedback and felt for the most part that it’s a good film. His opinion is that the film moves along nicely and although there are a few missteps in there, [...]

  • Mini Review Time

The Last Shot (2004) – (D-) – Great concept with very poor execution. Clumsy direction leaves this story very flat and feeling very generic. Worse than a sitcom, okay not that bad. Kung Fu Hustle (2004) – (B) – Fun flick. However, it’s not as good as everyone has said with comments on all the “meaning” behind stuff. Characters are pretty cardboard and it’s just a fun Friday night movie to eat your popcorn to. A very weak romantic element [...]

  • HUBRIS Test Screenings

I’ve been scheduling some test screenings for the rough cut of HUBRIS. This weekend is the big test with an audience who hasn’t been involved with the production at all. I’m hoping most of the movie gets a positive response. The movie is almost locked and ready to deliver to the composer and sound designer. Can’t wait to get it finished and out there!!!

  • Hubris Post-Production Update

Tonight I realized that I’ve been editing the film since June 19. That’s 32 straight days of editing. Whew!! The good news is a rough cut will be ready in about 2 more weeks.I’m working on tightening the cuts (scene by scene) and doing a very rough sound mix to hand off to the final mixer. I can’t wait to see what the first cut’s running time will be. It looks like it may be close to 30 minutes.

  • On the lookout for a song……

I have been searching for a song by an indie artist to feature during the end credits of my film. It’s been tough to find the right match for the images and feeling I need to end the picture.A good friend of mine has been actively scanning his network to find me some options. Hopefully he’ll find someone whose song will be the perfect fit. Otherwise, I’ll have my composer create the end credits score to convey the feelings and [...]

A Very Long Engagement (2004) – (B+) The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (1994) – (A) – Always love watching this film. Terence Stamp is amazing. Dear Frankie (2004) – (A-) Bride and Prejudice (2004) – (D)- Good effort with too many miscalculations in its structure.

My plane ride allowed me to view to “sanitized” versions of the following films.Hitch (2005) – Such a promising opening sequence only to fall to some movie-factory conventions. Will Smith gives an endearing performance and the film has its nice moments. The biggest fault for me was Act 3 fell apart and didn’t seem to really strive to do anything unique. (C) Note: There were some portrayals of Asian people in this film that were actually “normal”. No accents!! Yeah!! [...]

  • Back from Trip

I just returned from Taiwan on a business trip and am so beat. However, I can’t wait to start editing my new film which wrapped production last week.A day after shooting, I hopped on a plane and spent four days touring Taiwan. It was an amazing experience and opened my eyes to a part of the world I had never seen. It actually made me more anxious to start editing the film with a new perspective on life. Now…..on to [...]

  • HUBRIS Update

I’m amazed of how everything came together and allowed me to shoot my second film. I’ve found my muse (who shall remain anonymous) who has inspired me in so many ways. The production wrapped and I’m now into the post-production phase in which I’ll start shaping the film to be something even better than I imagined thanks to the collaborative efforts of my talented cast and crew. Stay tuned for the official launch of the movie website in the coming [...]

Kinsey (2004) – Great performances. Story left me wanting to know more about the outcome and lives in a deeper way. It felt as if the movie was only on the surface. (B-)The Aviator (2004) – Biopic that again, only scratches the surface. It moves along without really getting to know the man, rather is relishes in showing off his eccentricities and lavish production values. (C+) Crash (2004) – Incredible storytelling. Moving and thought-provoking. It is a bit manipulative and [...]
