Kanye West – “Jesus Walks” Director: Chris Milk This totally blew me away and held me from the very first frame until the end. It changed how I view videos today. Haven’t seen anything like it since either. Total masterpiece. I linked 2 websites to view it: Yahoo Launch – be sure to watch “Version 2″ Radical Media – go to “Director’s Reels”….find “Los Angeles”….go to “Chris Milk” Enjoy!
I’m going to be a little unconventional. My “Best of” list contains films from ANY YEAR that I finally watched for the first time in 2004. I haven’t been to the theaters in a while, so you won’t be seeing Sideways, Million Dollar Baby or The Aviator here….but they may very well be on my list next year.I actually enjoy watching and discovering a lot of gems on DVD. This way, it allows me to enjoy the pleasure of watching [...]
Busy writing a feature script…..it’s coming along pretty fast. I’ve been inspired recently by Robert Altman and his incredible techniques. If all goes well, should have a draft done by early next year and have a read through with some of my acting buddies.
Go support this film. It’s a fun, silly good time. More importantly, it will help support the need for fresh perspectives in Hollywood.
I forgot to mention that the bottom line is that I’m proud of my first film. Why? Because to me, it was my film school. I learned so many valuable lessons from it that it helped me grow as a filmmaker. I’ll always be fond of that fact and so I’ll always look back at this film and smile.
Film Threat’s review of my short film was negative. It basically ripped on the fact that the plot made no sense, or didn’t reveal enough information and the performances were not engaging enough to care for the characters. The funny things is….I agree with most of the criticism. Being that is was my first film, I wrote something that I thought would be made originally by my brother and friends. I tried to write something simple to shoot. When the [...]
NARC (2002) Dir: Joe Carnahan Raw energy. Pure adrenaline. Electric performances. There are few words that can really capture the feeling when you watch this film. Joe Carnahan’s second film stamps his signature all over a genre that was all but tired out. In fact, what impresses me most with this film is that it certainly feels new and fresh in a genre and storyline that’s been previously explored by myriads of filmmakers. And that’s damn hard to do. The [...]
My trailer got reviewed today by www.moviepoopshoot.com, you can read the mostly positive review here: Read review – see the middle of the page I really feel good about what he says about my first film. The negative comments don’t sting too bad because the music in the trailer is the temp track. And I love getting props for being a daring filmmaker and that he’d still pay to see my film even though he didn’t exactly know what the [...]
I’m chugging along on the feature script for FAVORS. I have a bunch of ideas for new characters and sequences, but just have to find the time to sit down and pound it all out. This week I hope to have a finished first draft that I can then go back and flesh out all the dialogue and plot points.
Every now and then I’d like to write a small review on my “Great Films” list. OUT OF SIGHT (1998) Dir: Steven Soderbergh Writing a smart, tightly-paced crime/thriller/comedy is tough. Finding or developing chemistry between the lead actors is even tougher. Steven Soderbergh deftly accomplishes an incredible feat by forming a world in which lines are not firmly drawn in the sand, and the characters are so vibrant and alive. One can visit IMDB.COM for the plot, so I won’t [...]
My first short film, FAVORS, premiered over the weekend to a crowd (100+) of family, friends and industry contacts. Overall feedback was good, but I discovered a lot about what works and, more importantly, what does not when it comes to telling a story. I’ve learned a tremendous amount from making my first film and will apply it as I move forward with my next project. But, I must say it was a dream come true to stand in the [...]
